An Advisory Board Application Packet is available to the public on Sumter County Commission Properties at various locations, including the Historic Courthouse, County Libraries, and Annex Offices.

The Board of Sumter County Commissioners is receiving applications for the following vacancies:

Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board
Needs the following members:

One (1) School Board Alternate

One (1) FL Dept. of Education Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Alternate

One (1) Community Action Agency (CAA) Alternate

One (1) 60+ Alternate

One (1) Citizen of Sumter County Primary; One (1) Alternate
One (1) Citizen-User (must use Transit system as their primary source of transportation) Primary; One (1) Alternate

One (1) Private for Profit Transportation Industry Alternate

One (1) Agency for Health Care Administration Alternate

One (1) Children at Risk Alternate

Meets every other month on the 1st Tuesday at 2:00 PM.

 

Sumter County Tourist Development Council (2) two vacancies:
  • RV/Motel Owner; term expires 11/01/08
  • Tourist Industry; term expires 11/01/08

The objective of the committee is to further enhance the tourism industry and the overall economy of Sumter County through projects or programs that meet the following criteria:

  1. Conform to State/County Ordinances
  2. Attract new visitors to Sumter County
  3. Increase the frequency of visitors
  4. Increase the length of stay of visitors
  5. Increase the per capita spending of visitors
  6. Increase the number of room nights, thereby increase tourist development revenues

Zoning and Adjustment Board: 
(1) Position, District #5

11 Member Board including 2 Alternates; residents of Sumter County

Duties and authority shall be to sit as the local planning agency in performing the following duties: 

1.      Local Planning

a.      Conduct studies and develop recommendations to the commission concerning goals, objectives and policies related to comprehensive planning for the growth, development and re-development of the county.

b.      Conduct studies and develop recommendations to the commission concerning policies, ordinances, administrative procedures, and other means for carrying out planning in a coordinated and efficient manner.

2.      Zoning and adjustments

a.      To sit as the zoning board and hold public hearings for the purpose of recommending to the commission on applications for re-zoning or other amendments to this chapter.

b.      To sit as an adjustment board and hold public hearings for the following purposes:

1.      To recommend or approve/disapprove applications for special, conditional and temporary use permits, all as specified in Table 13-104A.

2.      To approve/disapprove applications for variances, as specified in Section 13-237

Applications may be obtained online or by calling the County Commissioners Office at (352) 793-0200 or (352) 753-1592. They may also be picked up at the County Commissioners Office on the Second Floor of the Historic Courthouse in Bushnell or the County Commissioners Office at The Village Annex.
