  1. Step 3: Registration
  2. If you want additional users to access the portal they can create their own sign on in City Works but you will have to list them as an agent on each application in the people section of the portal with their email address.

  3. Please submit the following:
  4. Insurance requirements:
    Certificate of Insurance - Liability and Workers Compensation:
    --General & Building: $300,000 Bodily Injury; $50,000 Property Damage
    --Electrical: $300,000 per occurrence; $500,000 Property Damage
    --All other categories: $100,000 Bodily Injury; $25,000 Property Damage
  5. Certificates of Insurance (in lieu of uploading them above)

    Can be emailed to the Building Department, faxed (352-689-4401), or mailed directly from the insurance company and must be valid in Florida. The company name being registered should be listed in the subject line of the email or fax.

    • Insurance Certificates and Workers Compensation Exemption Forms must appear in the exact name as your DBPR License or your Sumter County Competency Card. 

  6. Sumter County Building Department must be listed as the certificate holder with the address of:

  7. Please allow 3 to 5 business days for your account to be set up. You will receive a email confirming your registration is complete.
  8. Step 4: ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
  9. Online permitting allows contractors to apply for permits, schedule inspections, and pay fees
    By applying for a permit online, the contractor agrees to maintain current workers' compensation coverage, liability insurance, and a valid license as required by local and state provisions of FL Chapter 489 until final inspection.
    The contractor is responsible to verify the owner's name and address match with their contract.
    Payments for online permitting are paid with a credit card.
    Credit Card payments are assessed a 2.9% fee by the credit card processing company.
    All permits expire after 180 days if no inspections occur.
    All permitted work must meet all applicable state and local statutes, ordinance, rules, regulations, and codes.
    All phases of work inspected upon completion.
    The building official may revoke any permit or suspend the permit if code violations not corrected and permits have expired.
    All online permitting is subject to review and approval.
