Brite Leaf Nursery Expands with R&D Facility

Brite Leaf Nursery, with assistance from Sumter County Economic Development, recently expanded its business operations in Lake Panasoffkee.  Brite Leaf completed the construction of three greenhouses totaling over 90,000 square feet and added 10,000 square feet of office and shipping area. As one of a select number of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) certified citrus nurseries in the nation, the company applies advanced technologies and innovative production processes to grow citrus trees, which are utilized for Research and Development (R&D) in agriculture. The business collaborates with the University of Florida, University of California-Riverside, and the USDA on these activities.

Brite Leaf Nursery is a family-owned and operated containerized citrus nursery. Their primary customer is the commercial grove owner and they have been in operation since 1998. Brite Leaf Nursery now has two facilities, both located in Lake Panasoffkee.

Agricultural advances like this expansion promote a flourishing high-tech agriculture industry in Sumter County.  To assist in developing this project, Sumter County Economic Development entered into an agreement with Brite Leaf Nursery based on the company’s agricultural R&D capital investment.  With direction from the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners, agreements like this continue to ensure robust economic activity in the private sector and perpetuate a diverse tax base for the county.
