The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is widening State Road 50 from four to six lanes between Hernando/Sumter County Line to east of CR 478A. Weather permitting construction work on the roadway will begin as soon as November 2, 2021.
During Construction, motorists should expect lane closures and detours on weekdays and weekends. Electronic message boards and other signage will be used to direct traffic through the work zone.
Uneven pavement is a common, condition with projects that require resurfacing, as the contractor must put down different layers of asphalt during various phases of construction. Road conditions during construction will become less apparent as the project progresses. Motorists are asked to exercise caution and reduce their speed while driving through the work zone.
The contractor will maintain pedestrian access to sidewalks during construction using signed detours, traffic control devices, and/or temporary walkways and ramps, when appropriate. The construction schedule may change due to weather or other unexpected conditions. For the most current project details and lane closure information, make sure to visit FDOT’s Central Florida Roads website, (https://www.cflroads.com/project/435859-3).
Also on Sunday, Oct. 31, through Saturday, Nov. 13, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. you can expect inside, and outside lane closures eastbound and westbound on S.R. 50 as needed from Boogy Road to County Road 751 for clearing and grubbing operations. Please reduce your speed and exercise caution in the work zone.
